As part of our topic work on 'The Circle of Life', we learnt how to weave using paper strips.  We looked closely at a woven basket from Ghana and watched a video to see how it was made. We then had a go at creating our own designs, decorating them with 2D shapes we had learnt in Maths.

We work hard on our reading and enjoy books together every day! Here we are with our reading partners; we are developing our phonics skills to read more complex words and are learning to use expression in our voices too.

Friday is Active Maths day in Cherry Class! We love taking our learning outside to help us practise and develop our Maths skills.  Already, we have played 'Place Value' relays, 'Ordering Races' and 'Target Numbers' to help us develop our understanding of number.

As part of our PE, we have been learning to play different playground games.  Here we are using the playground gym trail, playing 'What's the Time, Mr Wolf?' and 'Hopscotch'.  Some of us enjoyed the games so much that we play them with our friends at lunchtime!

We had a great time at Colchester Zoo and loved feeding the giraffes and elephants!

As part of our learning in PE, we recently went to The Ongar Academy to take part in a Multi-Skills Festival. We had a go at 10 different activities that helped us to practise skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, balancing as well as working as part of a team! We enjoyed taking part with other local schools and trying new things!

As part of our cross-curricular Computing and DT work, we used Lego WeDo kits to build and code our own crocodile!  We had to include a sensor to open the crocodile's mouth, as well as a motor and a lever to make it move.  It was important to work as part of a team to find the right components.

In Computing, we are challenging ourselves to learn to code.  We have been using Purple Mash programmes to complete a series of challenges. So far we have coded aeroplanes to take off and made bubbles pop!

In English, we are working hard to develop different reading skills. Recently we have been focussing on inference, looking carefully at details and clues in the text to help us work out what is happening.

To help us aim for Mastery in Maths, we have been completing calculations in 3 different ways: show it, draw it and write it!  Here we are using Dienes to show how we worked out addition calculations.
